Sam Browne Belt and Shoulder Strap Size Guide

Sam Browne Belts and Shoulder Straps are available in set sizes listed in the chart below. Set sizes are measured from the centre hole of belt and have a range of adjustment to suit your individual measurements.

Size Category is automatically determined by the length measurement and all Sam Browne Waist Belts are listed under 3 separate categories (SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE). Size category determines the overall distance and layout between D rings, sword hook and buckle placement in order to ensure correct placement of Shoulder Strap and overall fit.

EXAMPLE : For an individual waist measurement of 66cm please order BELT SIZE 66 (SMALL), this belt will suit an individual measurement range of 60cm to 72cm. For and individual shoulder measurement of 71cm please order SHOULDER STRAP SIZE 71, this strap will suit an individual measurement range of 67cm to 75cm.

The Sam Browne Waist Belt will accommodate both Poly uniform and Service dress, please bear in mind the size adjustment range required when selecting your belt.

The Shoulder strap will generally only suit either Poly or Service dress due to the size adjustment range and two separate straps are required, please order separately.

How to measure for a Sam Browne Waist Belt and Shoulder Strap

  • Place a soft tape measure around your waist while wearing Poly shirt where you would like the belt to sit and take note of the measurement. Avoid taking this measurement too tight in order to accommodate the width of the finished strap.

  • Put on your Service Jacket and take a second waist measurement. This measurement will be taken higher up on the waist between the 3rd and 4th lower buttons on your jacket, see reference below. Take note of this measurement.

  • Shoulder Strap measurement is taken from the point where your belt will sit under the left pocket. Run the soft tape measure over the right shoulder and to a similar point on the back and take note of measurement. This step must be repeated for Poly and Service dress as the strap length will vary due to the Sword Belt being worn at different heights. Service jacket shoulder measurement will be shorter.

TIP: After determining where you would like your Sword Belt to sit use an ordinary belt and place in this position. This will give you a fixed point to take your Shoulder Strap measurement from.

  • Compare your measurements with sizes listed in SHOP and take note of the size range of each individual product listing.

EXAMPLE: For a Poly waist measurement of 63cm and Service Jacket of 69cm this will require a Sam Browne Belt SMALL size 66 as these measurements are within the individual size range.
